EVENT RULES
1. ELIGIBILITY & TEAM REQUIREMENTS
The World Team Stableford Challenge is open only to Amateur Golfers as defined by the R&A.
The World Team Stableford Challenge will be played as a Net Stableford Team Event.
A Team must comprise 4 Players, each of whom will be required to submit a valid Handicap Index Certificate, issued by the respective home club or from any registered body in compliance with the USGA/World Handicapping System.
The Maximum Course Handicap used in the tournament will be 24 for Men and 36 for Women, irrespective of the Submitted Handicap Index. This will override any other handicap calculation used in the tournament.
2. GROUPS & TEAMS
The entire field of participants may be divided into groups.
Each of the groups will play the same 3 golf courses in rotation over 3 golfing days.
All members of a team will play in the same group.
Each Team must nominate a Team Leader (CAPTAIN).
All communication regarding the tournament rules, format, scoring or any doubts or clarifications for any member of the team is to be routed through the CAPTAIN only. In each flight of 4, one or two golfers from one team will play with one or two golfers from another team/s.
3. PAIRINGS & SCORING FORMAT
The World Team Stableford Challenge will be played and scored as below.
Round 1 : Individual Net Stableford
2 Players from a Team will be Paired with 2 Other Players from Another Team.
Each of the Players will be Scored for Net Stableford Points using 85% of Course Handicap.
Course Handicap for Round 1 will be calculated using the Submitted Handicap Index & Slope Rating for the Course and Tees being played OR the Handicap derived from System 36 Method (explained Later in Section 5) whichever is lower.
The Sum of The Best 3 Individual Net Stableford Points from the Team will be the Team Score for Round 1
Round 2 : Individual Net Stableford
2 Players from a Team will be Paired with 2 Other Players from Another Team as in Round 1
Each of the Players will be Scored for Net Stableford Points using 85% of Course Handicap.
Course Handicap for Round 2 will be calculated using the Submitted Handicap Index & Slope Rating for the Course and Tees being played.
However, a correction may be applied to the Original Course Handicap calculated for Round 2, based on actual performance vs Handicap in Round 1. The Course Handicap Correction is explained later (Section 6).
As in Round 1, The Sum of The Best 3 Individual Net Stableford Points from the Team will be the Team Score for Round 2
Round 3 : "Better Ball" Net Stableford
2 Players from a Team will be Paired with 2 Other Players from Another Team.
Team Captains may submit their preferred pairs for this round latest by the time of Registration for Round 2 or a default team pair will be considered.
The 2 players from each team will each play their own ball throughout the round and on each hole the higher of the two Individual Net Stableford Points will count as the Pair’s Net Stableford Points for that hole. Scoring will be on 85% of the Course Handicap for the round.
Course Handicap for Round 3 will be calculated using the Submitted Handicap Index & Slope Rating for the Course and Tees being played. However, a correction may be applied to the Original Course Handicap calculated for Round 3, based on actual performance vs Handicap in Round 1 & Round 2. The Course Handicap Correction is explained later (Section 6).
The Sum of the Better Ball, Net Stableford Points of the 2 Pairs will be the Team Score for Round 3.
4. WORLD TEAM STABLEFORD CHALLENGE SCORES
The Aggregate of the Team Scores of Round 1 ( Best 3 Individual Net Stableford Points out of 4 Players), Round 2 ( Best 3 Individual Net Stableford Points out of 4 Players) & Round 3 ( Sum of the 2 Pairs for Better Ball Net Stableford Points) will be the Final Team Scores. These scores will determine the Winning Team for the World Team Golf Championship. In the event of any tie - the tiebreak will be decided based on the highest better ball stableford points total for the last round of the two pairs that make up a team, followed by the points for the back 9, back 6, back 3, and ultimately those for the last hole.
5. SYSTEM 36 HANDICAPPING EXPLAINED
The System 36 Handicapping works as follows :
For any hole,
A gross par or better (including birdie, eagle etc) gives 2 points
A gross bogey gives 1 point
A gross double bogey or worse gives 0 points
Maximum recorded score on any hole is Gross Quadruple Bogey
The sum of points for 18 holes scored as above is reduced from 36 to give the System 36 Handicap for the round.
As an example
In the above example, a Player’s Gross Scores by hole and corresponding par for the Hole result in the points for each of the holes.
For Gross Pars or Better: 2 points have been allotted; Also note that for a Gross Birdie on Hole no 10, only 2 points have been allotted as in this system Gross Par or Better only 2 points are given. So even if it is a Gross Eagle or Albatross and so on, the no of points resulting is just 2.
For Gross Bogeys: 1 point has been allotted.
The Total Points achieved in the above example is 17.
The System 36 Handicap for the Player for this round is therefore 36-17=19
6. COURSE HANDICAP CORRECTION
Handicap Correction will be applied to players after their scores in Round 1 or Round 2 or both, if they played below the 100% Calculated course handicaps (which are calculated based on the Handicaps/Handicap indexes submitted by them).
The 100% Calculated course handicap will be compared to the “System 36 Handicap” obtained ( Refer to Section 5) and the difference (100% Calculated Course Handicap – System 36 Handicap) of 3 or more will result in the 100% Calculated Course Handicaps being reduced for all the “subsequent” round/s.
Note: It is possible there may be reductions after round 1 for round 2 and round 3 and a subsequent further reduction for round 3 after round 2 based on the same comparison
Difference (100% Calculated Course Handicap – System 36 Handicap) | REDUCTION IN HANDICAP FOR SUBSEQUENT ROUNDS |
3 | -1 |
4 | -2 |
5 | -3 |
6 | -4 |
7 or more | By as much |
